SOUTH-AFRICA PART 2

zuid-afrika_foto_deel_2_small_2.jpgAfter a good night of rest we had a large breakfast consisting of fresh orange juice, coffee, eggs, sausages and bacon. There wasn’t much of a cultural difference to notice at the moment, even the rain was falling!

The agenda for this morning was a press lunch at Restaurant Amazink Eatery in Township Khayamandi. We were welcomed by mister Schalp with a glass of Villièra Prestige Cuvée – Cap Classique 2005. They presented us authentic ‘vetkoekies’ with jam and butter, the taste can be compared with brioche. The restaurant is known for it’s use of local agricultural products.

During the lunch they served us soup made of potatoes and carrots. The main dishes were different types of meat from the Braai (B.B.Q), chicken, veil cutlets and sausages. Accompanied with different kinds of vegetables, salads and stamp with chaka laka and white bean paste. It tasted very good, but it was all so rich. Finally they served us apple with cinnamon and ice cream for dessert.

After the lunch we went into the Township with the owner of the restaurant. For me, it was really fantastic to see how the locals live and to see how happy they are. We played football with them, and we bought crisps for approximately 35 children for only €4, -!

In the evening we made preparations for the opening of Neil Ellis Winery at the Radisson Blu hotel in Cape Town, together with Jef Schuur of the restaurant ‘Bij Jef’ in Texel. Tomorrow Neil Ellis' opening a new wine cellar and we organize the lunch for 30 guests. Neil Ellis has wine vineyards in the ‘’Oude Nektar Winery’’ where the Shiraz is cultivated. He also has vineyards in ‘’Contreberg Farm’’, where he cultivates the Groenekloof Cabernet Sauvignon. This area lies in the west coast at 385 meters above sea level.

As you might wonder, what kind of secrets will the new wine cellar reveal tomorow?
