Report from Tokyo part V: Facing the last days
d.jpgWe have had a great weekend! The whole weekend was really busy, but Sunday we reached a climax. Approximately 120 guests found their way to the ‘Belle Epoque’ restaurant of the Okura Tokyo Hotel. This caused a lot of tension and feelings of unbelief within the kitchen brigade and in the service. But it was also very funny for us because our Japanese colleagues suddenly started to talk Japanese instead of English. But we do have to give them all a big compliment because everything went very well! It was a long day for everybody.

t.jpgDespite of the busy schedule we did make some time free after lunch for a visit to the Yoyoki Park, as promised. I am repeating myself, but when you are in the vicinity of Tokyo, please pay a visit to this park on a Sunday. It was an amazing experience; everybody in the park did what he/she wanted to do. From street artists to rock and roll and from Elvis Presley to various people walking around with a board saying ‘Free Hugs' written on it which was used very much. It was unbelievable. On one side it was very weird, but on the other hand it was nice to see that everybody was able to do their things. It is a form of relaxation for Japanese people and for us it was a sight of the town. We are now facing the last few days. Just two more days and we will be heading back to Amsterdam again. Before that, we are going to enjoy our last evening together with two former colleagues from Ciel Bleu Amsterdam now working in Okura Tokyo. They made reservations for us at a restaurant awarded two Michelin stars (last year Michelin also introduced the guide in Japan). People see this restaurant as the Japanese ‘El Bulli', only with a Japanese kitchen. We are very curious and we will give you an extended report with photos.

Q-linary greetings from Japan,

Dennis Huwaë en Onno Kokmeijer
