Nine Michelin-stars in 30 hours

Like every year we make a culinary trip through Europe. The first year we started in London and the year after we visited San Sebastiaan and South-East France. This time we went to Germany, to be precise Frankfurt(Langen.) Here we had a lovely diner in the 3 star restaurant Amador. The next morning we left early, travelled 200 kilometres south to have lunch in the 3 star restaurant L’ Ansbourg. After this delicious lunch we went even further to the south to dine in Auberge de L’ill in Elzas(France.)

It was a weekend full of innovations and surprises. Partly because it were totally different restaurants, with all three a different cooking style and concept. The first restaurant Amador was like you walked into a living room with approximately 9 tables. It was a great experience in presentation, with lots of Spanish influences, especially because of the background of the chef. The menu which was served consisted of 25 courses.
L’Ansbourg, the second restaurant were we had lunch, was located on an unique location.
After 45 minutes autobahn through the mountains, a restaurant appears out of nowhere. You can imagine how crazy it must have looked that the surroundings were filled with parked cars. This restaurant has twenty-two persons in service and was a good oiled machine which worked very well. The cuisine was very tasty and the authentic dishes were combined with modern influences.
At last we went to Colmar in the Elzas where we visited Auberge L’ill. This restaurant has three Michelin stars for over 42 years, now the third generation is cooking. It was a great experience to see this, a very classic taste but all delicious. In short: a beautifully located hotel, were the family has established a small empire.

This culinary journey was very instructive and served as a good inspiration for our kitchen. We are also very busy now days with developing a Culinary Center in Hotel Okura Amsterdam. Soon more about this, inclusive the first artist- impressions, and as of the second week of September our new à la carte card will be available. We look forward to welcoming you in our restaurant or as of December in our Culinary Center.

Culinary regards, Onno
