Yesterday afternoon a special wine tasting was organized in our Ciel Bleu Restaurant called ‘Feel the Heights with Terrazas de los Andes’. With a select group of people we discover the taste of Argentina under the supervision of the winemaker of Terrazas de los Anders, who flew to Amsterdam especially for this occasion.
As aperitif we tasted the Reserva Torrentes 2008, an intens fresh wine with floral and fruity aromas. The grapes for this wine grow at 1,800 meters in the province of Salta, to the North of Argentina. Onno Kokmeijer and I developed a cornetto with lobster salad and roasted paprika to accompany this wine, followed by a tartar of sea bass with cavaillon melon infused with sherry.
The menu started with the Reserva Chardonnay 2008, the grapes for this wine grow at 1,200 meters. Another intens wine, but also complex, and offering a unique long finish. We also tasted the Reserva Malbec 2007, the Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 and finally the ‘Grand Cru’ Cheval des Andes 2006. This new world ‘Grand Cru’ wine combines the art of assemblage of Bordeaux’s Premier Grand Cru Classe A Cheval Blanc with the best of Argentina: the 1929 Malbec from Terrazas de los Andes. It was a special experience to taste these wines from different heights.
Are you also interested in organizing a special wine tasting? This is possible in the Wine Room of Taste of Okura, which breathes the atmosphere of an authentic wine cellar. I’m looking forward to meeting you there and accompany you on a small wine trip.
Culinary regards, Noël Vanwittenbergh
