The journey of Mr. van Poppel and me began in a luxurious and comfortable couch with a glass of Macon-Lugny from Louis Latour. It was 8 AM when we left Heusden on our way to the Elzas in France. The necessary culinary snacks and entertainment were taken care of by Mr. van Glansbeek.

In Eguisheim, which is 15 kilometres south from Colmar, we were welcomed by Mr. Marc Beyer. We tasted several Gewurztraminers, Rieslings and Pinot Gris. The final one, the Pinot Gris from Comtes d’Eguisheim from 2005, was the wine Mr. Van Poppel and I enjoyed the most. This resulted in a purchase of 380 bottles for our chic restaurant Yamazato. At night we spoiled ourselves with different ‘Elzas specialties’ like choucroutte, pigs lard and smoked sausages. The next morning began with breakfast including Kugelkopff, a light cracker, and a nice cup of coffee. Around 9 AM we were on our way by couch again to Bourgogne where we visited the Hospice de Beaune. The Hospice de Beaune is a hospital for less fortuned, which is paid by the sales of wine barrels from Hospices de Beaune. Around 11 PM we closed the day with a nice glass of wine from the delicious Chardonnay grapes. Mr. Louis Fabrice Latour bought us a glass of the fabulous Grand Cru vineyard called Criots-Batard-Montrachet. Our day has been wonderful, a memory that has to last via a photograph!

Best regards,
Noel Vanwittenbergh.
